I gave up crop credits as a farmer: CM
Palaniswami denies having implemented plans suggested by Stalin
AIADMK coordinator and chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday rejected DMK chairman MP Stalin’s claim that the AIADMK government was only implementing the plans it he had suggested.
“Sir. Stalin claimed that I had renounced the outstanding harvest loans [from cooperative institutions] only after he suggested it. I am a farmer. I renounced the current harvest loans only because I intended to remove all the challenges facing farmers, ”Palaniswami said during his election campaign in various locations in Tiruvallur district.
According to him, Mr. Stalin had mentioned the things he [Mr. Palaniswami] has been implemented. AIADMK is able to implement the agenda while DMK can only keep talking but never implement it, he said.
While parties had made various promises in their election manifestos, only AIADMK had waived outstanding harvest loans, even without mentioning it in its manifesto, Palaniswami said.
The government had renounced loans after considering the difficulties faced by farmers. “Not all farmers who have taken out loans from cooperative banks are from AIADMK. They are all farmers, ”he said, responding to a related accusation by Mr. Stalin. There was no discrimination of farmers on political lines. He said that during the DMK regime, police opened fire on farmers who demanded a reduction in electricity tariffs by one paise for each unit. “Farmers will not forget the incident. It was our Amma [Jayalalithaa] which granted compensation of 5 lakh to the families of those killed in the incident, ”he said.
The government was preparing a plan for a program where it would directly buy the products of farmers and export them, he said.
A helpline will be launched
Criticizing Mr. Stalin for receiving petitions in a box during campaigns, he said the government would launch a mobile phone grievance system within a week, via the 1,100 hotline. “Gone are the days when you had to file your complaint in a box. Everyone has a cell phone these days. One photo is enough. This will come directly to the Chief Minister, ”he said.
Mr. Palaniswami also accused the DMK of not being genuinely interested in the release of the seven lifers in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
He called on his supporters to counter the “false campaign” of the DMK, using information and communication technologies.
The chief minister reiterated his accusation that the DMK was promoting dynastic politics. But in AIADMK, even a grassroots worker could become an MP, minister or even chief minister, he said.
In Avadi, he appointed a cadre and said: “Like you, I created the unity of our party in my village, which was then a congressional fort. I went to college after starting the unit. But in two days, they threw down the pole of our party. He said he subsequently rose through the political ranks, putting in 46 years of hard work.
